This week I want to bring attention to another local act, Shelton Harris. Along with his producer, Tyler Dopps, he has been making waves in the local scene for quite some time. His first work was a mixtape called The Resume produced by a fellow high school classmate of mine that consisted of mostly remixes of old beats. Since then he has expanded drastically, rapping over original beats with a style that continues to improve and grow. He even toured with Macklemore about two years ago, performing around the country. His most recent album is The Fresh Start, his first mixtape with producer Tyler Dopps. Since then he has released three singles, all off his upcoming album Lights.
These new singles, especially “We All”, have a focused and apparent energy. Tyler Dopps has done a fantastic job of creating beats that bring out this style in Harris, who has really taken off since joining with the producer. All of their tracks together are bridled with passion that is infectious just to listen to. He may be unsigned and doing it all on his own for now, but expect things to change if he continues to put out music of this caliber and play shows around the area. Check out these works and more for free at his bandcamp, and find info about upcoming shows on his facebook, which include stops at PLU and Seattle University.
